Pensacola. Florida, home of the Blue Angels, beautiful beaches, live oak trees, mild winters, home of American Magic and much more, has been our home for the last 37 years.

My sister lives in Pensacola, Julia! We were there for my brother-in-law’s retirement from the Navy. I love the way you described it!

...so your notebook offers a perfect insight on another world.

Local girl and longtime reader! I’m a retired English teacher, living in Independence, Missouri (KC suburb), hometown of Harry S Truman and starting point of the Santa Fe, California, and Oregon trails. I share Julie’s love for Kansas City and its many charms.

Hi Lori! I did not know that about the starting point of the trails. Thank you for sharing.

I live in Oklahoma City and enjoy life here. However, my best friend and I love to come to KC to shop…we love Kansas City. My claim to fame is Mary Carol Garrity has become a dear friend. Years ago she came to OKC and decorated my home and now we love to come stay and shop at Diebolt’s. I enjoy reading Little Notebook!

Lucky, lucky you, Rasmussen. Mary Carol is so talented but more than that she's kind and lovely. Glad to having you reading from just a little bit south. :)

I will always be an Iowa farm girl, but I live in the very southern part of Leawood barely on the Kansas side of the Kansas City metro area. I have loved KC since my older brother lived here in the early 1980’s. It was my soft place to land when I went through a long painful divorce and moved here from Wichita in late 2000. I love the genuine friendliness of my adopted hometown.

Aww, Nancy, glad you (soft) landed in KC. :)

I live in Exeter, New Hampshire, a charming and walkable little town. It's a great source of American history because it served as the state capital during the Revolution. And, Portsmouth, a vibrant coastal city and the border to southern Maine, is only twenty minutes away.

Suzanne, NH has been on my bucket list for ever and ever. I've only been as far north as Boston and I'd like to explore more. Thank you for your comment. :)

I live in a little town called Plainview, Texas it is right in the middle of the panhandle of Texas between Amarillo and Lubbock. It is a very flat and unattractive area, nothing around here but farm land as far as the eye can see, and cows. We have the distinction of being Jimmy Deans Hometown...He's the sausage king! Up the road in you will find a neat attraction for this area called Palo Duro Canyon. It's often called the Grand Canyon of Texas, it's a very neat place, and you would never know it was there.

I'm so glad to learn about your corner of the world, Cindy. I'm guessing it looks much the same as central/western Kansas. We don't have anything like your canyon, however. Thanks for sharing!

Yes, I have been to a small part of Kansas around the Moscow area. My husband is an engineer and works on Cotton Gins. So if central/ western Kansas, looks like that area then you know exactly what Plainview looks like. lol

Gladstone, Missouri, a suburb of KC

Julie Mayfield's avatar

Hi neighbor! I actually lived in Gladstone for a while when I was very small.

I live in Columbia, MO but my daughter & grandsons live in Weston so we are in your area regularly.

Julie Mayfield's avatar

Love Weston! And have stopped in CoMo many times on the way to and from St. Louis.

I'm in Wichita which is really quite unattractive. We actually just moved from our home of 35 years on the East side of town to a brand new build on the West side of town. It was a good decision. We love visiting Kansas City and our favorite hotel is The President. We have been staying there for years and years.

Congrats on the new home! I’ve spent a lot of time in Wichita for family stuff and I also lived in Salina for five years as a kid. We love The President too!
